Over the past decade, the early stage innovation and technology (startup) sector in WA has evolved significantly. A vibrant WA high-tech sector could contribute over $76B to $100B in GSP in 2025, with 3000 to 5000 new companies formed per year in the sector, creating over 150,000 new jobs by 2025 and enabling many more.

StartupWA advocates for diversifying the WA economy by supporting the growing startup sector.

The Premier of WA, the Hon Colin Barnett MEc MLA recently announced a new State Cabinet.

While the announcement has an explicit focus on "broadening our economy", it makes no mention of innovation or WA's growing startup sector. We will be seeking clarification about the State Government's view on the role of startups and innovation in the WA economy.

Today, WA Labor Leader, March McGowan MLA announced a New Industries Fund to Drive Startups.

StartupWA is encouraged to see that the WA Labor have recognized the need to diversify WA's economy and have specifically identified startups as playing a key role. We look forward to seeing more details of the New Industries Fund proposed by WA Labor.
